Painting - Man Taking Snuff
Title
Painting - Man Taking Snuff
Description
Oil painting of man taking snuff. Well modeled in a period gold leaf frame. Probably British, 19th century. Unsigned.
From Burke Hodgson:
"This companion piece to The Vase The Elephant Stepped On (Majolica vase) was so hated by Mrs. Roosevelt Walker that she made Dr. Walker take it down to the UGA English department where it hung for many decades. When Dr. Walker died, mother, who was secretary of the English department, snitched it. It is very old, very well executed, probably valuable and very, very ugly."
