Empire settee, c. 1840, has mahogany veneered trim. These small sofas were often used as window seats. They also worked well as casual seating at the end of beds.

Silk embroidered shawl, late Victorian. Shawls such as this were worn over formal dresses and sometimes draped over pianos and other large pieces of furniture.

Late 19th century gas light (converted to electric). Lighting similar to this was used in all rooms and hallways. Electric lighting was not used until the 1880s and may have come from a small electric generator on the left side of the house.
