Empire Wardrobe
Description
Large double door, veneer and solid mahogany empire wardrobe. Drawers beneath each door with round wooden button knobs. Case sits on bracketed, footed base. Iron casters. Original or early modification casters added under feet. Exceptionally fine flame and modeled mahogany veneers. Veneering is on all exterior of piece. Top cornice is unusually fine ogee beveled molded. Ten pieces when taken apart. Interior - right side has been fitted with inserted shelves for books and left side open for hanging clothes. Secondary woods are poplar. Screws and bolts used to assemble pieces are hand-made original. Arched gothic molding on front door is somewhat similar to molding seen on sideboards of this period.
